The problem
Professional sectors have significant shortages in suitably qualified personnel, especially in the construction (carpentry, electrical, plumbing, structural) and tourism sectors, while by 2030 a 17% increase in jobs in tourism is anticipated.
At the same time, the amount of waste recycled is less than half of the total waste produced, requiring immediate, innovative solutions and greater progress.
- < 30% of plastics are actually recycled
- 40% of young people are at risk of poverty and social exclusion
- 1,3M of Greeks work in Tourism, and less than 20% have specialised training
Our solution
Αn innovative action that trains and raises awareness of children and young people about the environment and the blue economy, focusing on sailing, recycling, and the empowerment of vulnerable social groups.
The project has three main pillars
-
- Technical training for young people aged 17-25;
- Woodworking, CNC and ship carpentry techniques,
- Yacht Charter Crew and Speedboat
- Entrepreneurship
- Technical training for young people aged 17-25;
- Employability services
- Innovative environmental action and Children
-
- Construction of 3 small educational sailing boats (Optimist) with recycled materials
- Children’s summer camp with STEAM workshops focusing on the construction and operation of a sailboat
The project will conclude with an open water race with the young who attended the charter crew training and a race in the harbor with participants from the summer camp.
As a legacy, the training boats will be donated to small sailing groups on our critical islands.
