Integration In The World Of Work

The problem

Our country holds the highest youth unemployment rate and one of the highest in-work poverty rates in Europe.

Young people with low levels of education, limited job experience, lack of basic skills, and access to training, are therefore trapped in unemployment.

The humanitarian donor financing system is overstretched and unsustainable, while also fails to effectively address the development needs to increase resilience, help people lift themselves out of poverty, and ensure dignified lives.

Problem

Greece holds the highest youth unemployment rate and one of the highest in-work poverty rates in Europe. Young people with low levels of education, limited job experience and no access to basic skills or training are trapped in unemployment. At the same time, the humanitarian donor financing system is overstretched and unsustainable, and fails to address the development needs that would build resilience, help people lift themselves out of poverty and ensure dignified lives.

Solution

The programme supports young vulnerable people through a holistic approach that helps unemployed Greeks and guest communities integrate into society on equal terms. The model is built on three equally important services: orientation, vocational training and employability services. Employability support is delivered both as a standalone service and embedded within every vocational training programme, so participants receive continuous career guidance alongside technical upskilling and can enter the labour market from whatever stage of readiness they start at. The project also sets an example for the humanitarian sector by committing to return 50% of its costs to society through collaboration with recruitment companies, bringing more stakeholders into the ecosystem.

Services

  • Orientation: assessment and guidance to identify skills, aspirations and the right pathway
  • Vocational training: technical upskilling with employability support embedded throughout
  • Employability services: career counselling, job search assistance, interview preparation, networking, personal branding and workplace skills development
  • Employer connection: collaboration with recruitment companies to link participants to real job opportunities

Outcomes

  • 70 people trained
  • 100 people received employability services
  • 65 people found work
