With more than 5,300 meals and the support of 200 volunteers, the initiative continues strong in 2025, supporting vulnerable social groups and promoting sustainability.

Lidl Hellas and the Odyssea Youth Center of Thessaloniki are pleased to announce the successful completion of the first cycle of the “Meal of Joy” initiative. This effort, which began in September 2024, is implemented weekly and offers meaningful support to the most vulnerable social groups in Thessaloniki. The initiative has been warmly embraced by the local community, strengthening the spirit of solidarity and giving.

To date, more than 5,300 portions of hot food have been offered, while 200 volunteers have participated, dedicating their time and energy to support fellow citizens in need. The initiative has supported organizations such as the Organization Against Drugs (OKANA), the Open Day Center and the Homeless Shelter of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, as well as the Social Service Syn-Anthropos ARSIS, ARSIS Streetwork, Unaccompanied Minor Shelters, families living on the poverty line, homeless individuals, and people in recovery.

Lidl Hellas covers the operating costs of the initiative and provides fresh ingredients for meal preparation, reaffirming its commitment to social solidarity and sustainability. At the same time, with its support, Odyssea’s work is strengthened, reinforcing the local community and providing solutions to real needs.

On December 17, 2024, volunteer employees from Lidl Hellas participated in a special event at the Odyssea Youth Center in Thessaloniki, as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility program. Together with the Odyssea Social Kitchen, they prepared and distributed 200 portions of hot food and melomakarona (traditional Greek Christmas sweets). The meals were delivered to the Organization Against Drugs (OKANA) and the Irida Women’s Center, further supporting efforts to help vulnerable fellow citizens.

The initiative also includes the participation of Thessaloniki youth in interactive cooking workshops, held at the Odyssea Youth Center facilities. Centered around the zero-waste philosophy and guided by an experienced chef, participants have the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills in sustainable cooking. Their participation may serve as a springboard for further involvement in the professional culinary field, through Odyssea’s free educational programs.

With the commitment of Lidl Hellas and the dedication of the Odyssea Youth Center of Thessaloniki, the “Meal of Joy” initiative will continue into 2025, aiming to provide real support to the city’s vulnerable social groups.
