“Empowerment through Knowledge” – Cycle of Vocational Training Courses by Odyssea

Odyssea has launched a series of vocational training seminars in various sectors (Agriculture, Tourism, Construction) in accommodation facilities (Domes) across the mainland and in urban centers, giving participants the opportunity to develop practical skills that will support their integration into society and the labor market. The initiative is implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in cooperation with the Ministry of Migration and Asylum. It is part of the project “Promoting the integration of the refugee population into the labor market,” under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0,” funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.

The project is addressed to beneficiaries of international protection (recognized refugees and beneficiaries of subsidiary protection) who reside in accommodation facilities (Domes) of the Ministry of Migration and Asylum or in urban areas, as well as to beneficiaries of temporary protection, legal migrants, and asylum seekers within the pre-integration process.

More specifically, the cycle of vocational training seminars in the agricultural sector began at the Controlled Access Facility for Temporary Accommodation of Asylum Seekers Koutsochero, Thessaly. The program combines familiarization with the fundamental elements of agriculture—such as soil function, the water cycle, basic vegetable types, and greenhouse use—alongside intensive practical training.

Participants have the chance to immediately apply their knowledge in the field, learning how to prepare the soil, cultivate, and organize a functional vegetable garden in a specially designed area within the facility. The practical dimension of the vocational training courses forms a key pillar of the program, offering experience in the field and empowering beneficiaries.

After the completion of this cycle, the program will expand into the sectors of tourism and construction, shaping a comprehensive framework of professional empowerment for participants.
