Piraeus and UNHCR in Greece continue for the 3rd year the Refugee Women Academy

Piraeus and UNHCR Greece announce the continuation of the  Refugee Women Academy, an action launched in 2023, which aims to develop, through professional training, new skills for refugee women and asylum seekers. The action is implemented with the non-profit civil company Odyssea as a training facilitator, with courses held in person at its premises. Following its successful implementation, 90 women will have the opportunity to attend training courses for employment as hotel employees, kitchen assistants and waitresses during the year 2025.

The Academy is being held under the Piraeus “Equall – For a Society of Equal People” programme and is part of the Gender Equality Pillar. During the last two years, 121 women participated in the professional training cycles implemented in the framework of the Refugee Women Academy, acquiring practical skills and knowledge that enhance their employment prospects in the growing tourism sector.

The success of the training programmes implemented in 2023 and 2024 highlight the positive impact of the programme. Specifically, with regard to the Academy programme completed in the year 2024, 84 participants graduated, of which 40.5% secured employment in the tourism sector.

The ongoing commitment of Piraeus and UNHCR in Greece reflects a shared belief in the ability of every woman to overcome obstacles and shape her future in dignity and respect.
